It's particular about its lighting requirements. As an understory palm that lives on the jungle floor, it doesn't like direct sunlight on its leaves but likes filtered light.
Depending on how much sunlight it gets, it will need a drink once or twice a week. More in the summer, less in the monsoon and cooler months. It will wither quickly if over-watered, so checking its moisture level with your finger is an essential part of its care routine. -

It prefers indirect bright light. It can adapt to low light, but its growth will slow considerably and variegation will not be as pronounced.
It needs a drink two or three times a week, depending on its sun exposure. More in the summer, less in the cool and wet months.
