Chamaedorea elegans, aka the parlor palm is one of the best types of palms for beginners. It helps clean the air and provides an elegant touch of green that can live for up to a few decades as an indoor tree.
It's native to Guatemala where it grows in clumps. Its light-textured foliage cloaks thin trunks.
The fronds are popular in flower arrangements, Palm Sunday decorations, and wreaths because they can survive for up to 40 days after being cut from the plant. -
Care details
It grows best in bright, indirect sunlight, though it also adapts to lower light.
Like many palms, parlor palms are sensitive to overwatering and cannot tolerate being waterlogged or sitting in a saturated potting mix. Ideally, keep moisture consistent. Err on the side of dry rather than overwatering. Water when the top 1 inch of soil feels dry.
